FAQs about porcelain veneers answered by our dentist

Are you looking for a way to brighten your smile that bypasses having to have your teeth whitened with bleaches?

At Broadway Dental Centre, our dentist in Tooting can offer our suitable patients a versatile and restorative cosmetic procedure known as dental or porcelain veneers.

And here, our dentist in Tooting answers common questions that we receive about porcelain veneers, so read on to learn more.

How are veneers fitted?

When our dentist in Tooting fits porcelain veneers, you may be surprised to learn that there are no needles needed and no numbing agents either.

We will simply (and very gently) sand down the front of the tooth that is having the veneers fitted and then apply a dental cement.

Once the cement has been applied, we then place the veneer over the top of the tooth and the procedure is complete.

What can dental veneers treat?

Dental veneers are one of the most versatile of all cosmetic dental procedures.

They can whiten a smile, conceal minor gaps, hide and support teeth that have chips and cracks, while also helping to correct minor issues with asymmetry. In some instances, they are also used to help treat sensitivity.

Can they help with sensitivity?

This will depend on what the cause of the sensitivity is. But if the cause is linked to microscopic holes in the dentine allowing stimuli to aggravate the pulp, then veneers can certainly help!

As they are placed over the top of the tooth, these holes will be blocked and so any associated sensitivity will be reduced. Similarly, if you have a crack or chip on one of your teeth, you may be able to bypass the associated sensitivity with one of our team fitting a veneer.

Are they expensive?

Dental veneers can seem a bit costly, but you have to consider the work that goes into creating them.

Firstly, our team will use either a mould or a 3D scanner to take an impression of the teeth that are going to have the veneers fitted. Then, the veneers are created in a laboratory using porcelain or a porcelain composite mixture.

Our team then fits them to your teeth and you have a great-looking smile for many years to come. But if you have concerns about the cost of veneers, feel free to talk to our team at the centre about the financing options that we can offer to suitable patients. This will help you to spread the cost over several months.

How long do they last?

Dental veneers can last up to and over 15 years with correct care.

However, to promote their longevity, you will need to refrain from activities such as smoking, drinking excessive quantities of alcohol and of course, you will need to stay in regular contact with our dental team.

This will help us to keep an eye out for things such as veneer loosening, gum disease and other potential issues that can cause your veneers to fall off prematurely. If you have concerns that one of your veneers has come loose or has fallen off entirely, please book an appointment with our team.
